Summary
As a Project Manager-Data Services, you'll be instrumental in leading and coordinating the successful delivery of data-focused projects across Focus Solutions' service lines. This includes data conversions, analytics and reporting initiatives, migrations, and custom data solutions. You'll work closely with clients, data engineers, business analysts, and product teams to ensure that projects meet timelines, stay within scope, and deliver actionable results that support client success.
While your primary focus will be on managing projects within our Data Services business unit, you may also be responsible for projects in other business units, including Managed IT. In periods between major Data Services projects, you may be assigned to internal or cross-functional efforts to support broader business initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of data-centric projects such as analytics/reporting builds, data conversions, and healthcare interoperability.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts across departments including Data Engineering, Application Development, IT Infrastructure, and Client Success when projects span multiple service lines.
- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to define project goals, data and infrastructure requirements, deliverables, and success metrics.
- Develop and manage detailed project scopes, timelines, and resources.
- Monitor project progress and performance using appropriate tools and methodologies.
- Provide consistent and proactive communication with clients regarding milestones, risks, and changes.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including requirements, status updates, risk logs, and post-project retrospectives.
- Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance best practices are followed throughout project execution.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of Data Services projects while also contributing to internal or cross-functional initiatives during gaps between client engagements.
- Help evolve project delivery standards and documentation as the team grows.
Technical Skills and Tools
- Highly experienced in both Agile/Scrum and Waterfall project management methodologies, with the ability to adapt approach based on project needs.
- Skilled at managing the triple constraint (aka Iron Triangle - scope, timeline, and budget), working closely with clients to ensure alignment and trade-off decisions are effectively communicated and managed.
- Experience using project management platforms such as Asana, Microsoft Project, Jira, or similar.
- Understanding of healthcare data formats (e.g., HL7, CCD, FHIR), EHR/EMR data structures, and data migration/conversion processes.
- Experience with data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or business intelligence platforms.
- Familiarity with SQL, data mapping, ETL concepts, and data validation best practices.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PHI handling).
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Engineering, or Health Informatics a related field-or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing technical or data-related projects, preferably in a healthcare IT or services environment.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills-able to translate technical details into business terms.
- Proven ability to build consensus and drive accountability across cross-functional teams.
