Summary

As a Senior Data Conversion Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the seamless migration, transformation, and integration of healthcare data across legacy and modern Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. You'll manage end-to-end data conversion efforts-including extraction, mapping, and transformation-while ensuring compliance with interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and CCD/C-CDA.

You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to validate business requirements, support the development of clinical and operational dashboards, and uphold the integrity and accuracy of sensitive patient data throughout the process. This fully remote role requires deep expertise in healthcare IT and EHR systems, strong technical and analytical skills, and a consulting mindset to navigate complex data challenges and drive meaningful outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex data conversion projects involving EHR systems such as Epic, Oracle (formerly Cerner), MEDITECH, Veradigm (formerly Allscripts), or athenahealth.
• Analyze, extract, transform, and load (ETL) clinical and administrative data from legacy systems into target EHR platforms.
• Develop and maintain data mapping specifications, transformation logic, and validation rules.
• Collaborate with clinical informatics, IT, and vendor teams to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance.
• Design and implement automated tools and scripts for data extraction, cleansing, and validation.
• Troubleshoot data anomalies and resolve issues related to data quality and system compatibility.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare data privacy and security regulations.
• Document conversion processes, workflows, and technical specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field-or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience in data conversion or data engineering roles within the healthcare industry.
• Hands-on experience with one or more major EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Oracle [Cerner], MEDITECH, etc.).
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, or other scripting languages used for data manipulation and transformation.
• Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability and data exchange standards (e.g., HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA) and clinical coding systems (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD-10).
• Experience with ETL tools and data integration platforms (e.g., Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Informatica).
• Familiarity with clinical workflows and healthcare data types (e.g., demographics, encounters, medications, lab results).

Preferred

• Certifications in Epic Bridges, HL7, FHIR, or other EHR interoperability technologies.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of data governance, master data management, and clinical data quality in healthcare settings.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience supporting cross-functional teams or managing data-focused projects.
